R&D Laser

LULI's “R&D Lasers” group brings together some fifteen scientists specializing in laser physics and its many applications. Part of the mission of the R&D Lasers group is to maintain the laboratory's infrastructure in operational condition, by proposing innovative solutions at the cutting edge of technology to ensure that the facilities remain competitive at the best international level, as well as developing upstream technologies that will be used on future intense laser chains that LULI will be operating.

Research areas

The activities of the LULI Laboratory's Lasers team revolve mainly around the development of intense lasers for the laboratory's operating facilities, such as Apollon (IR*), LULI2000, HERA and XCAN.
At the same time, the team is investing in the development of innovative laser source architectures, from laser sources to laser interaction chambers, as well as in the development of specific diagnostics for intense laser chains.
The laser development team is split between the two LULI sites: at École Polytechnique, which houses two 70 m² experiment rooms, a clean room for laser assembly and the XCAN laboratory, and at the Apollon site, located at Orme des Merisiers at CEA Saclay. The team is made up of researchers, research engineers, post-docs, PhD students, apprentices and trainees.
