APOLLON

APOLLON

APOLLON aims at the realization of a set of laser beams, superimposable on the same focal spot and synchronizable, with a maximum total energy on target of 265 J :

  • an ultra-intense main laser beam "F1" delivering 15 fs pulses with a maximum energy of 150 J, i.e. a peak power of 10 PW (1 shot per minute),
  • an intense secondary laser beam "F2", delivering 15 fs pulses with a maximum energy of 15 J, i.e. a peak power of 1 PW,
  • a "creation" laser beam "F3", delivering nanosecond pulses with a maximum energy of 250 J,
  • a probe laser beam "F4", delivering 20 fs pulses with a maximum energy of 250 mJ (10 TW),

supplying 2 experimental spaces :

the "short focal length" room (HE1) in which interactions with solid targets will be studied at intensities of the order of a few 1021 W/cm2 to generate proton, ion and X-ray beams,
the "long focal length" room (HE0) dedicated to electron acceleration over several tens of meters,

on the Orme des Merisiers site.

The laser chain and the associated experimental rooms constitute a unique installation that allows to carry out first-rate experiments on various scientific topics related to power lasers and to the media and sources of particles and radiation that they can produce.
